SE Drive Removal
The SE Drive is the gear stick unit just in front of the handbrake.
There are two main things stopping you from just removing the SE Drive:
The seat subframes
The security bolts holding the SE Drive down
Special Tool Required
You require a 5 splined T30 security Torx bit. It is different to your standard Torx bits.
It can be bought from smart, using part number 450 589 03 09 00 or from here as a set.
SE Drive Removal
Firstly you need to remove the seats to get access to the bolts holding bases down. A how2 will be done for this soon. Just remove the four bolts from each subframe and lift the subframe clear of the car.
Remove the SE Drive cover by following this guide here.
Pull the carpet away from the base of the SE Drive to reveal four bolts,
use the 5 splined security Torx bit and a ratchet to remove all four bolts.
With those removed you will be able to lift the SE Drive to gain access to the electrical connection located underneath. This can be disconnected by pushing in the tab and swinging the lever over.
The Security Bolts
These are awkward and overkill so I decided to swap them for normal hexagon headed bolts.
You will need 4x M6 1mm pitch hexagon headed bolts between 15mm and 18mm long.
It is also recommended that you fit a washer to each one to stop any damage when fitting.
With these fitted instead of the security bolts, it should be possible to remove all four bolts with the seats and frames in situ. The use of a ratchet ring spanner will make the job much easier.
