Black Headlights - Peanut
The headlights are quite a nice looking design but the indicator does spoil it. This is a very old mod that is still very rare.

Warm up the clips before attempting to unclip them as they can snap very easily.
I used a standard fan heater but a hair dryer will work just as well.
Don't allow the clear lens to get too hot or it may melt.
Once all the clips are undone, the clear lens will easily pull away from the back.
Remove all of the bulbs including the indicator bulb and holder as this clips into the reflector.
Hold the front part of the reflector and pull it towards you to unclip it from the light.
With the front reflector off you can see how basic the headlights are.
You will have the front reflector, be careful as they can mark and scratch easily.
Look on the back and you will see two tabs, push these in and the diffuser will come out.
Painting The Front Reflector
If you have a black car and want to make it a bit more evil looking (I know I do) then you should consider this mod. Obviously you don't have to paint it black, it could be any colour but I have only ever seen it done black. It will affect the output of your lights by a small percentage.
Follow the information above until you have the front reflector in your hand.
Using fine grade wet and dry paper, remove the shiny layer from the entire of the reflector.
It's up to you if you want to remove the shiny layer from the indicator reflector.
Get to Halfords and get some car spray paint, it will adhere perfectly well to the plastic.
If you spray something in a cold environment, the paint will dry matt so it's best to
spray these pieces in a nice warm garage or shed (with ventilation), 3 coats will be fine.
Fully allow to dry in a nice warm place before refitting into the headlight.

Use Better/Whiter Bulbs
The obvious upgrade to standard bulbs is to
If you want the car to remain legal, try replacing the bulbs with blue tinted 'performance' bulbs.
These can give an effect close to HID for a fraction of the price. Don't be tempted by 100 watt bulbs.
LED Side Lights
Replace the side light 501 wedge bulbs with LED fitments, choose carefully from a reputable
seller as there is some real crap being produced in China that don't last and are very dim.
I have been testing some LED side lights that are far superior to the normal design and far brighter.
They are surrounded by a heatsink and have a luxeon style emitter on the top.
And here they are fitted...
They aren't as bright as they seem in the photo, it's hard to get a decent night shot.
They are brighter than the standard bulbs and alternative LED products, they have
a nice crisp white colour but aren't going to blind people or attract the police.
