451 Front Frame Removal
The front of the 451 is taken up by a huge plastic frame, here's how to change it
Although it's hard to see even with the front panels off, the front section of the 451 is made up of a
gigantic mounting frame that many other parts attach to like the radiator, scuttle and headlights.
It's very common for this frame to become damaged during a front end collision.
Any front side or low impacts can miss the crash zones and pass all the force into this frame.
Invariably it breaks so something won't attach to it correctly so the whole thing needs changing.
Personally I hit a fox on the left side and went down a ditch on the right side.
The green lines show the basic outline of the mounting frame.
In the front of each wheel arch is a plastic rivet, pull the plastic pin out and pull out the surround.
Using a 10mm socket, remove the screw that holds the front section of the undertray in place.
Crouch down and look under the lower section, There is a Torx25 screw hidden in a recess.
Remove all of the screws across the scuttle panel and pull it away from the car.
Look at the top of the radiator on both sides, there are long bolts with E12 heads. Remove them.
Pull off the cabin air inlet seal to be reused on your replacement frame.
Remove the 13mm nuts and pull the wiper arms off of the car.
As you have already removed the front crash member you will have already removed 3 of
the E14 bolts from each side. You will still have 1 that holds the [upgrade] horn in place.
In each corner you will find a singular E14 bolt to remove.
The frame will now be loose. Carefully pull it away from the front of the car ensuring that
the radiator doesn't start pulling away as well. The radiator has tabs that slot into the back
edge of the frame which were held in place with the previously removed long E12 bolts.
The frame can now be removed from the car and you can see the size of it.
With the frame removed you can gain access to a lot of the parts originally obscurred.
Fit your new frame in the reverse of removal.
