Yes, there are other 451 NA replacement TIK pipes but they all fall for the same bad design by copying the original smart part.  The original part is 2x 90 degree right angles going from the air box to the engine. Other replacement TIK pipes do exactly the same.

Basic flow physics tell us that a right angle slows down airflow and creates turbulence. Other replacement TIK pipes have 2 right angles in exactly the same way.

This simulated video below (thanks to SCOA member Jetfuel for the video link) shows how badly the air flow is affected by the 90 degree bends.

SCOA member Sunnyokanagan stated that a 90 degree bend creates the airflow resistance of approximately 30 feet of straight pipe. That means that all the other replacement TIK pipes have approximately 60 feet worth of unnecessary air flow built in as standard.

But that’s not the case on the Evilution designed 451 NA TIK. The 2x 90 degree bends have been replaced with a smooth sweeping bend to allow increased airflow and a more laminar flow.

It is constructed using 4 ply silicone and the fitting is absolutely perfect (obviously).

The bonus is that you then lose the 2 resonators. The pipe is available from SmartMods.co.uk. The cost of this part including delivery is £65, less than the Mocal branded TIK without delivery. For all you American smart car owners, this will fit your 451 fortwos and you can get Forge USA to complete your order making it easier and cheaper for you to get this part for your smart.

To order anything of Forge’s, use Forge Motorsport (the co.uk site). Upon checking out, in the comments section, tell them you would like the order to be fulfilled by their USA office in Orlando, FL. It adds a couple of days to the arrival of the part, but you can avoid the USD to GBP conversion.

Conclusion

I fitted the test pipe some time back and noticed an increase in MPG. I had previously fitted the PiperCross filter and these seemed to work well together. Available in red, black and blue and well worth the money.
