The smart standard foglights are standard throughout many Mercedes models.
Despite being sold by smart for over £70 each and most Bosch resellers selling them for about £45 each, they are relatively easy to buy second hand. I got these ones from ebay for £15 including delivery.
Smart part numbers are A251 820 08 56 and A251 820 07 56.
Bosch part numbers are 0 305 076 002 and 0 305 076 001.
Don't narrow yourself to part numbers when searching though as not many people
know which numbers to put on Ebay and other websites. There are quite a few
numbers on the lables of both units so it's easy to get the information wrong.
You know what they look like from the pictures below.
Go to Ebay and type in Mercedes Fog. Scan through the results to find them.
Adding Side Lights
The fog lights look nice but you will rarely ever have them on unless you are one of those
pricks who drives areound with them on all the time because you think it looks cool.
Lets add some really subtle sidelights into them.
Look at the fog light units, mine had a wax paper disc glued over a hole.
I took the paper disc off and got a white LED which fitted ok but didn't fall in.
Squirt a ring of silicone around the hole.
Push the LED in place and cover it with a bit more silicone.
This holds it in place and makes it water tight.
I then immediately wrapped it in gaffa tape. Duct tape should be fine as long as it's waterproof.
The silicone will set over the next 24 hours. Wire the LEDs up to ensure they work.
I wired the black wire directly to the nearest metal bolt on the car.
The live was spliced into the sidelight live wire and heatshrinked to protect.
Fit them to the car. Fitting guide can be found here.
Adding DRLs
DRLs or Daytime Running Lights are low intensity lights that come on with the ignition.
They are becoming more and more common these days and many countries are trying
to make them standard fitment on all new cars as they apparently reduce accidents.
To make these fog light add on LEDs into DRLs, you just need to wire them to a switched live.
If you run the wires from these, through the battery box grommet or the bulkhead grommet
and connect the wire to the auxiliary switched output on the SAM unit.
Job done.
