Brabus Front Splitter
The Brabus front splitter for the facelift 450 fortwo and all 450 cabrios looks excellent, it is probably the best design splitter available. Although not cheap.
How Much!
The splitter on its own is about £170 and comes unpainted so budget for that.
The quality and fitment however is spot on and well worth the money.
Fitting
Remove the front panels from the car following this guide here.
Although I am sure it is possible to fit this with the panel in place, I wouldn't try it.
Lay the front panel section face down on something soft to stop any damage occuring.
The existing splitter is held on with 8 fixings. 2 plastic rivets each side (circled red)
and 2 plastic clips on each side (circled green). There is a Torx screw in between the
the 2 clips (circled green), this does NOT need to be removed at all.
Start on the 2 plastic rivets on each end, push the centre out to remove the fixing.
There are 2 the same at the top of each upright, remove these as before.
Go back to the outside edge of the splitter, it is hooked round, unhook it both ends.
All that is holding the splitter in place now is the 4 clips previously circled in green.
Push the side of the clip in with a screwdriver and pull the splitter off.
Look at the 2 central uprights, these are moulded to hold themself in place.
Bend out and push down on either side to unclip the uprights.
The old splitter will now be free to slide from the front panels.
Your splitter will come with a pair of black spacers. Slot them into the splitter.
I found the easiest way to secure these spacers was to use a zip tie as seen below.
You will see that it mimics the undertray clips that are moulded to the original.
The new undertray clip is circled in blue, the old clip is circled in yellow.
Push the Brabus splitter clips into their respective holes and clip the ends back over.
Pull the uprights upwards until they click both sides, this can take a bit of force.
Now replace all 4 plastic inserts and slide the plastic pins all the way into them.
Place a sheet or towel down under the front of the car to save the splitter getting scratched
as you refit the front panels. Refit the front panel and replace all of the fixings and the grill.
Look under the car and make sure the new clips are clipped into the lugs on the undertray.
This stops the lower part of the front panel moving about as you drive.
Stand back and appreciate your work and remember to be careful as the front is now
a bit lower than before. You don't want to catch it on a kerb or oversized speed bump.
