This is the high voltage battery removed form a 451 electric drive fortwo. It’s 178kg of nearly unmovable nightmares.

All around the outside, if you look carefully, there are discoloured spots along the outside lip. I have marked them yellow below.

The discolouring is where the studs have been welded to the perimeter mounting plates. Look underneath and you’ll see nuts. 46 of the bloody things. Grab yourself an 8mm spanner and remove them all.

Grab yourself someone else’s chisel and lever the mounting plates upwards to remove them.

Reassembly

When putting it back together, use PU adhesive all around to seal it fully. You don’t want any water in there do you?!

Fitting new rivets is cheap and easy if you have the rivet gun and a selection box of rivets. Alternatively you could replace them with nuts and bolts.
