Obviously with the Trust remover plugs taking up the same port as the X-Gauge there was an initial concern that both couldn’t be used at the same time. Luckily for us it’s possible.

How Can I Use 2 Plugs In 1 Socket?

I know what you are thinking, ‘double adapter’, you’re wrong, it’s more simple. You just have to use one plug at a time.

How Does That Work?

It’s all down to the way the smart uses the trust sensors. As the car is turned on, the ECU checks the feedback from all of the sensors and any that it thinks are malfunctioning are ignored. This check is performed once on startup and isn’t performed again.

With the trust plug in place, the ECU recognises the k-line has been grounded and enters a base mode where none of the trust sensor information is acted upon.

What Is The Routine For Getting It To Work?

  • Insert your trust plug
  • Turn the ignition key to one
  • Remove the trust plug
  • Plug in the X-Gauge
  • Turn the car on

The Trust/Trust+ light will remain lit yet the X-Gauge will show the info as normal.

That’s A Lot Of Mucking About

Yep, sure is. Of course there is another way to do it. Remember though that this may void your X-Gauge warranty and this mod is not encouraged by Welte Engineering.

Cut the wire going to connection 7 on the X-Gauge plug giving yourself enough slack at each end to solder a switch. You will need a SPDT (single pole dual travel) switch.

Just to clarify the image, the socket is being looked at from the rear. Double check the connections

As you can see, with the switch in the 1 position it earths the K-Line in the same way the trust plug would, with the switch moved to position 2 it sends the info to the X-Gauge.

So now the routine is

  • Ensure the toggle switch is in position 1
  • Turn the ignition key to the 1st position
  • Toggle switch to position 2
  • Turn the car on

Again, the car should start with the Trust/Trust+ light lit and the X-Gauge functioning.
