Glove Box Retrofit
Fit the glove box flap properly even though smart say it isn't possible.
Where Can I Buy The Parts?
You could buy it from smart or save yourself the hassle and buy from S-P-D or Duni Bros.

Fitting The Glove Box Flap

Remove the glove box insert so you can easily drill and screw the flap in place.
This is the glove box flap and frame before it is mounted to the car.

To aid fitment, slide the hinge pins out so the flap can be removed from the frame.

This info is for fitting a glove box flap and frame to a right hand drive smart 451, LHD may differ.

As seen below, measure in 9cm and make a pencil mark.

Measure back from the mark by 6cm, make another pencil mark. Drill a 10mm hole.

Measure in 4cm on the other side, make a mark and then measure back 6cm. Mark and drill.

The lower tabs on the glove box frame should slot straight into the holes you have just made.
Widen or adjust the holes to suit your fitment, they are hidden by the frame when fitted.

Your insert should already have holes to accommodate the small top tabs.
Just below these tabs are screw holes. Work out where you need to drill and make a 4mm hole.

With the holes drilled, use some small appropriate screws to hold the frame in place.

Refit the glove box insert and take the plastic push in inserts...

...and push them up into the holes under the dashboard.

Hold the flap in place against the frame and replace the hinge pins.

You now have a properly fitted glove box flap.

Glovebox Lock

If you didn't  order the car with the glove box flap installed already, you won't have a
lock barrel to go with it but these can now be ordered from a smart dealer using part
number
A451 689 00 01. You will have to take some ID and your car registration documents
to buy one but the new barrel should arrive already working with your existing keys.

Thanks to Mike from Smartcar Specialist for the info.
